"Samadoşa samāgni ca sama dhātu malakriyah

Prasanna ātma indriya manah svastha iti abhidhīyate"

One who is established in Self, who has balanced dosas (elemental bio-energies), balanced agni (fire of digestion), properly formed dhatus (tissues), proper elimination of malas (waste products), well-functioning bodily processes, and whose mind, soul and senses are full of bliss - is called a healthy person.

What is health in Ayurveda?

In Ayurveda, health is not merely the absence of disease but a state in which mind, body, senses and soul are balanced and there is an overall sense of wellbeing. This is known as 'Swastha'.

In western life, this concept of 'Swastha' or 'true health' may seem like an impractical and unobtainable goal. It's quite true that modern living is considerably busier and more stressful than it was 5,0000 years ago - meaning achieving balance is a more challenging than it used to be. But by understanding key Ayurvedic concepts and integrating their wisdom and knowledge into daily life  you can be one step closer to true health.

By deepening your knowledge of your constitution, your digestion, your tissues, bodily functions and the mind-body relationship you will be able to peel back the layers of self to find never before discovered physical, emotional and spiritual wealth.
